In addition to feeling sorry for all the families involved in the Ravenshoe tragedy, not to mention, the community itself, I felt extreme sorrow for the Rowland Family. Having lost a son to an epileptic driver crashing into their car the Rowland fought so long and hard to make Jett’s Law a reality and with it the obligation that drivers not medically fit to drive would not. Clearly more work needs to be done to ensure that they do not.

I am also deeply sad for the driver who did not receive the mental health support he needed. For the second time this week we have heard of a tragedy resulting from a person suffering serious mental illness. When do we having the conversation about how best to deal those who are suffering from an illness most of us will be blessed not to get.? We show sympathy for cancer sufferers, asthma sufferers, diabetic sufferers now it is truly time to show sympathy for those with mental health issues – this horrible tragedy may have been prevented if we had more strategies in place for those suffering with mental illness.
